Welcome to Hollywood

Translation by Otávio Bernardi

According to the Script, our next park is, without further ado, Hollywood Studios!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the third theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort, opened in May 1st, 1989. This location is built to resemble movie studios.

Until 2008, it used to go by Disney-MGM Studios, inspired by the peak of Hollywood of the 1930s to 1940s. Later, it got its new name, which is known nowadays, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, due to the fact of it “being a representation beyond the golden age of cinema, to a celebration of the new entertainment modern Hollywood has to offer – in music, television, movies and theaters”.

The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror

The symbol of the park is The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror, an attraction based on the TV show from CBS. Previously, the symbol used to be the Wizard’s Hat, used by Mickey Mouse on the movie Fantasia, but it was removed in January 2015.

This park is a set of nine themed areas: Hollywood Boulevard (the entrance); Echo Lake (inspired by the place with the same name, and the small oval pond is meant to be in shape of one of Hidden Mickey’s ears); Commissary Lane (Not many attractions here, but you can take pictures with Wizard Mickey and Minnie with fancy outfits); Grand Avenue (with vintage buildings and warehouses, forwarding the spirit of modern day Los Angeles, having as its focus point Baseline Tap House bar, with decoration paying homage to an old company affiliated to Disney Studios of Burbank, California); Animation Courtyard (has attractions based on the animated Disney movies); Pixar Place (dedicated area for the movies and character of Pixar Animation Studios); Sunset Boulevard (inspired by the place with the same name, it’s where you can find the Tower of Terror); Toy Story Land (based on the movie Toy Story, the main idea is to be in Andy’s backyard, and see the world in the perspective of the toys); Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge (based on the Star Wars franchise, it has two main attractions: the first being a replica of the Millenium Falcon spaceship and the second one being a 3D battle between the First Order and the Resistance).

Toy Story Land

"The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood—not a place on a map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was — and always will be”. —  Michael Eisner, former executive director of the Walt Disney Company.
