Walt Disney Town

Translation by Otávio Bernardi

Celebration City, Florida is also known as ‘Walt Disney Town’, founded in 1994 by The Walt Disney Company. Projected to imitate the architecture of the late XIX century, “it captures the essence of America”, according to Disney.

This dream town was born on Walt’s plans for the Epcot, where he thought of creating a futuristic community. With his passing, nobody knew how to give the project continuity, and the park became what it is today. However, the ideas were not fully abandoned, and Celebration was created as a model city on Walt Disney’s dream.

Celebration is not a futuristic city, but it is a calm, charming, and movie-like town. The concept behind the city is that of a friendly place, with the sense of a neighborhood, preserving its beauty and for that to be possible, there are rules the residents must follow, for example: You cannot paint your house in different colors, or let the grass go above a certain height.

To this day, Disney doesn’t have full control of the city. It is administrated by many groups, such as the Celebration Residential Owners Association (CROA). Even though Celebration is connected to Walt Disney, the city doesn’t have any connections to Mickey Mouse or Minnie, so don’t expect to find any character related item or souvenir in the town.

Celebration residents don’t get any type of privileged treatment by Disney either, if they go to any Disney Company theme park or hotel, they are treated as any other costumer.

I hope you were as charmed as I was when visiting this little town. Like everything else Disney creates, it generates a feeling that is hard to put into words, and I can’t wait to visit there again!!!

For more information, you can check the city’s official site.
