“A freak snowstorm on January 11, 1977 in the state of Florida, led to the development of Florida's first ski resort. Naturally, because of the normal temperatures in Florida, the snow dissipated very quickly, and the snow rapidly turned into slush. This left behind a collection of waterlogged yet snowless ski jumps and chair lifts. However, the operators were interrupted on the dismount of the park, by a loud yell coming from the summit of the mountain of melting snow, and looked up to see a blue alligator sliding down the mountain at top speed. Ice Gator, the mascot, then landed in a pool of melted snow at the base of the mountain with a thunderous splash. The ski resort operators suddenly saw the park's potential, and the mountain of snow became Disney's Blizzard Beach”.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach was inaugurated on April 1st, 1995, being the third water park in Disney’s complex of theme parks. Having over 300 thousand square meters, the park is right between the All-Star Hotel and the Hollywood Studio park.
Blizzard Beach holds a very different atmosphere from the Orlando landscape, with mountains covered in artificial snow, cable cars and wooden cottages, iconic elements of the skiing season. It combines easy-going child attractions, with radical sports such as rides like the Summit Plummet, that is a free falling slide with over 118,11 feet high, which is the ‘symbol’ of the park. And there is the mascot of the Blizzard Beach, Ice Gator, the same one from the legend, being related to the Typhoon Lagoon mascot.
This water park has 3 regions, called slopes: Green Slope, Purple Slope and Red Slope. There are rides and attractions on the base of the mountain as well.
