The dream that came true

Translation by Otávio Bernardi

Following the script, let’s go to the first park in our trip through Disney in Orlando!!!

Magic Kingdom Park, mostly known only as ‘Magic Kingdom’, is the first Walt Disney theme park of the resort, first opened in October 1st, 1971. This park is dedicated to Disney’s fairy tale characters.

Represented by the Cinderella Castle, a replica of the fictional castle seen in the 1950s animated movie, with nearly 57 meters (187 feet) in height , it contains in its interior various mosaics of the princess’ movies and the Coat of Arms of the Disney family. Inside you will also find the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (where every girl can become a princess, with costumes, accessories, hair-styles and all, paid separately), and on the second floor there’s the restaurant: Cinderella’s Royal Table; and above it there are the rooms for the winners of the Year of Million Dreams promotion for a one-night accommodation.

The Magic Kingdom is divided into seven themed areas, these being the Main Street USA (main entrance to the park, and in the windows of the stores, it’s possible to see important names of Disney’s history), Adventureland (inspired by the jungles and forests of Africa, Asia, Middle-East, South America and South Pacific), Frontierland (inspired by the cowboys of the Old West and native americans), Liberty Square (based on a colonial village during the American Revolution), Fantasyland (the main theme being a medieval fair, and it was recently expanded), New Fantasyland (presenting more of Disney’s history and characters, and it also has two main areas: Storybook Circus – with elements from Dumbo and Mickey Mouse; and Enchanted Forest – themed area with movies from 1989, like the Little Mermaid) and Tomorrowland (based on an intergalactic city, a concept of the future from the 1950s), all around Cinderella’s Castle.

Main Street U.S.A

Magic Kingdom first opened with 23 attractions, with only 3 being unique and the others replications of Disneyland, in California. Nowadays, the park has 40 attractions for all ages, several parades, stores and restaurants. The main attractions are: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, The Barnstormer, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Carousel of Progress, and many more.

Fun Fact: When they saw characters walking in different areas in Disneyland, California, Disney decided to build the Magic Kingdom above secret tunnels, calling them utilidors, for employees and VIP guests to move around the park without breaking the character and the theme of their respective area. Due to the high level of groundwater in Florida, the park is in a second floor, and the tunnels are on the original level.

Roy Oliver Disney

“Walt Disney World is a tribute to Walter Elias Disney’s philosophy and life… and to the talents, dedication and loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney’s dream come true. May the Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration to the new knowledge for all who come to this happy place… a Magic Kingdom where young hearts of all ages can laugh, play and learn together.” – Roy Oliver Disney

A park with the purpose of bringing forth the child within us all. Created by a dreamer that preached the iconic line “Dreams come True”, accomplished his dreams and built an empire and a legacy, conquering a million fans all over the world and through time.
