Next stop: Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the ‘promised land’ of dreamers and adventurers, who land there with the intention of trying their luck!! Let’s check out a little bit of the history of this cinematographic city!!

Los Angeles (from the Spanish Los Ángeles - ‘the angels’) is a city belonging to Los Angeles County, located in the State of California, in a region highly exposed to earthquakes.

Before we talk a little about how it all started, how about knowing what exactly a county is?

Well, a county is the administrative subdivision of states in the United States. Their responsibilities and powers vary from state to state. Thus, most of them have more than one city, as is the case of Los Angeles County, in which the city of Los Angeles is the central focus and, for example, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Burbank and Santa Monica are considered cities, but together they form the great L.A.

So let’s go! Officially, it was founded by the Spaniards in September 1781, with the name of El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, Queem of Angels of the Porziuncula River). Later, after gaining independence from Spain, the village was annexed to Mexico.

However, in 1850, Los Angeles and the other areas of California became part of the United States, as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (a peace treaty that resulted in the end of the Mexican-American War of 1846/1848). And in the same year, L.A. receives the title of city.

Considered the 2nd most populous city in the United States, only behind New York, the ‘City of Angels’ went through many ups and downs to reach what it is today, one of the most important and influential urban, financial and cultural centers in the world, standing out in the aeronautical industry, cinema and tourism.
