“Welcome to the Animal Kingdom… real, ancient and imagined: a realm ruled by lions, dinosaurs and dragons; a reign of balance, harmony and survival, where we get to share the wonders, contemplate the beauty, be amazed in the drama and learn” – Michael D. Eisner
Disney’s Animal Kingdom first debuted in Abril 22nd, 1988, known worldwide as Earth Day. This park is dedicated to animal conservation, based on Walt Disney’s own philosophy.
The Tree of Life is the symbol of the Animal Kingdom, an artificial tree standing 145 feet tall and 50 feet wide. The mighty structure can be seen from almost every corner of the park, with over a thousand leaves stuck to 8.000 branches and 300 animals sculptured.
The Animal Kingdom is a haven for over 1700 animals, including more than 250 different species. Eight white rhinos, an endangered species, were born in the park and the first birth in the Animal Kingdom was a Kudo, an African antelope. The park does not have any firework performance in consideration of the animals.
The park has six distinct areas: Oasis (entrance area); Discovery Island (Located in the center of the park, connecting with the other areas and where the Tree of Life is); Africa (Located in the fictional African village of Harambe, this section contains a couple of endangered species); Asia (Located in the fictional realm of Anandapur – ‘a place of many wonders’ – and the first added area to Disney’s Animal Kingdom); DinoLand U.S.A (this area is inspired by the visitor’s curiosity on dinosaurs); Pandora – The World of Avatar (Area based on the movie Avatar, with rich details from the motion picture).
Fun Fact: In the Animal Kingdom, it is prohibited to use straws, cups, or plastic balloons, since these objects become trash, and are harmful for the animals’ health if eaten.
I hope you enjoyed your adventure in the Animal Kingdom!! Stay tuned for the next post!!
