  • The best footwear option to explore the city are either sneakers or wellies, as the streets of the Historic Center ar constantly flooded. And if you want to try some trails, walk in the water or througn the waterfalls, opt for hybrid sport shoes.

  • For your safety, it is recommended to travel long and deserted trails with company.

  • It is common in the city to have power outages and lack of water, especially in high season.


  • The city has dozens of handicraft stores.


  • Be sure to try Gabriela cachaça (a tribute to the 1988 film Cravo e Canela) and the Jorge Amado drink, typical drinks from Paraty.

  • Paraty has a diversity of culture, so if you have the opportunity, you should visit the Aldeia de Paraty Mirim, which has 36 families who live off sub-existence agriculture, handicraft production and tourism.


  • The best ways to see Paraty are on foot, by boat and/or using transport from the agencies. But if you want to explore the more distant beaches, waterfalls and stills, having a car will make a difference.


  • Paraty has a calendar of events for all tastes, such as:

- Paraty Internation Literary Fair: also known as FLIP, it brings together great personalities of literature and is considered one of the main literary festivals in Brazil and South America. For more information, visit the website.

- The Bourbon Festival: considered one of the most important festivals in Brazil, it features several jazz blues, R&B and soul concerts, in addition to several performances by street artists. Check the festival website.
