Inside San Francisco

Let’s stay on top of some tips to help on your trip to San Francisco??

1. San Francisco is a city that has a European footprint, with scarce and expensive parking, and efficient and affordable public transport. So, it is possible to travel around the city by bus, cable car, metro or bicycle, also having the option of Uber and Lyft.

2. The city has two cards, with which you can buy tickets for all the attractions you want for your trip. For more information, visit the GoCity website or CityPass.

3. Union Square is the starting point for two differents cable car lines, the Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde (both terminate at different locations on Fisherman’s Wharf).

4. The line at the cable-car’s starting point is usually long, so to escape it, go up a few blocks.

5. Union Square is also a stop for the red tourist buses that go around the city.

6. If you don’t want to use GPS around San Francisco, you can find maps of the city in stores, restaurants and hotels. On the maps, the main tourist spots and even the subway, bus and cable car lines are marked.

7. Regardless of the weather in the morning, Always take a coat, as the temperature can change drastically in the afternoon.

8. There is no best time to go, it all depends on your intention.

  • Winter: December, January and February. The temperature varies between 7ºC and 13ºC, with stronger winds, with greater incidence of rain. This time is considered low season, so hotels are cheaper and the city is more empty.

  • Spring: March, April and May. The temperature varies between 9ºC and 18ºC. It’s cherry blossom season, so the city looks amazing. Hotels are reasonably priced and the city is not crowded.

  • Summer: June, July and August. The temperature ranges from 11ºC to 21ºC. There is no incidence of rain. The city is more crowded due to the holiday season, and the hotels with higher prices. If you want to travel at that time, make your reservations in advance.

  • Autumn: September, October and November. It has a more pleasant climate, less wind and the temperature varies between 10ºC and 21ºC. The city takes on a cinematic appearance. The period is not so full and hotels are cheaper.

9. Be sure to pack comfortable shoes and a warm coat, regardless of the time of year. And if you go during the winter, don’t forget your gloves, hat, waterproof coat or raincoat.

10. Avoid the week between Christmas and New Years as the city will be crowded and many attractions close.
